Welcome to the website of Moonchaser British Shorthairs

"Moonchaser" is our registered prefix with the GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) and TICA (The International Cat Association), breeding Pedigree British Shorthairs since 2011.

 

We are small scale hobby breeders based near Walsall, West Midlands. We decided to enter the world of hobby breeding after falling in love with this beautiful breed of cat who are reknown for their larger size, thick dense plush coats and lovable purrrrsonalities! Please note that we do not breed for profit and strongly oppose "kitten mills / backyard breeders". We breed purely for the love of the British Shorthair and the hobby involved in striving to breed kittens as close to the breed standard as possible.

 

British Shorthairs are available in a variety of colours and coat patterns and due to their cobby size and wonderful temperament are often referred to as the "Teddy Bears" of the cat world. The author Lewis Carroll based the Cheshire Cat character in his Alice in Wonderland novels on the British Shorthair due to their famous "grins". Very occasionally we also have the beautiful British Longhair make an appearance in some of our litters.

 

 

Whilst we are hobby breeders with a long-term aim of breeding for type and temperament, our cats are first and foremost our much loved pets and very much spoilt members of the family! 

 

All of our adults and kittens are either GCCF or TICA registered and we abide by the Guidelines set out by both Governing bodies. We breed only from health-tested lines. 

 

Although at present we are unable to participate in entering Cat Shows ourselves (due to weekend work commitments), many of our kittens have gone on to do well on the Show bench with their new owners. We are currently owned by various coloured Queens and Stud Boys. The girls live within our home to raise their kittens and also have access to our outdoor Cat Chalet's inbetween litters. All kittens and adults are well handled and used to household activity and noises and most of all given lots of love, attention and play time!

 

  Our boys reside within our very comfortable outdoor Cat Chalet's where they receive daily fuss and attention whilst also enjoying the view of their garden surroundings.

 

The Chalets have their own bedrooms compartments and living quarters with heating and lighting installed. They also have climbing shelving platforms, scratch posts, beds, toys and last but not least their own webcams so that we can continue to watch our furry friends' antics from back inside the house.
